Homemade ice cream!!

Here's something everyone should try if they're bored at home with nothing to do but the usual routine of waking up, bathing, going online, having meals, walking around the house and going out for a while, day in and day out... because you have an unbearably long holiday that seems to have only been desirable when you were in school~

If you can relate to how I feel, then yeah, this is something you'd want to try for the sake of trying something new~ :P Making your own ice cream. I like chocolate... so this is chocolate ice cream hahahaha xD tough luck if you don't like it :3

Ingredients:

1 1/2 teaspoons of unflavoured gelatin
1 tablespoon of water
3 cups of low fat milk - divided
3 large egg yolks
1 can (roughly 14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup of cocoa powder
2 ounces of chopped up chocolate

How to make it:

Sprinkle gelatin over water in a small bowl; let it stand for a bit and stirring once or twice, while you make the base for the ice cream.

Pour 1 1/2 cups of milk into a large sauce pan. Add cocoa and chocolate to the milk. Heat the milk mixture over medium heat until it starts to steam - at which point you stop heating it up.

Then you beat the eggs and condensed milk in a medium bowl. Gradually pour in the hot milk mixture into the bowl until it's all blended smoothly.

You then return the mixture to the pan and cook over medium heat, stir it with (preferably) a wooden spoon, so that you can see when the back of the spoon is lightly coated - this usually takes around 5 minutes, more or less. BUT REMEMBER: never ever have it boiled or it'll ruin the whole thing and it'll start to curdle.

You'll then start to see some sort of custard-like thing beginning to form, so what you do is you sieve it and then put into a large bowl. Then you add the softened gelatin prepared earlier on and whisk them together until it melts -- then u add the remaining amount of milk add stir that together as well. Cover the whole thing up and refrigerate until chilled -- takes about 2 hours.

Whisk the ice cream mixture and pour into a can or a container where you want to store the ice cream in. Freeze it and then serve~ if you like~ you can put in cookie crumbles to make it nicer :D BUT the cookies have to be crushed into small pieces about the size of an average.... pea? and then it has to be chilled beforehand as well. Which you can add around half an hour after you put in the ice cream mixture into the freezer. Add 'em together and it'll be like cookies and cream x)

I feel like I should give my boyfie a go at this :D not a lot of people can say that their girlfriends made them ice cream right? :O hohoohohoho~ it will be EPIC! XD OKAY, all the best if you decided to try it~ :D

a FINE line

... A VERY FINE LINE, between being a smart ass AND a smart person.

SMART PEOPLE are amusing to listen to, they sometimes bore you with facts or they awe you with how much knowledge they have, plus whatever comes out of their mouth is useful. Their purpose is to merely inform and share.

SMART ASSES on the other hand, say things that are unnecessary, makes you feel like shit and their words hurt you and offend you. They take out the fun in things, because they are just SOOOO smart. (Queue eye roll please!) *rolls eyes* Their purpose is to make you feel stupid and belittled.

Still not enough to comprehend? Okay, let's paint a picture and take a few scenarios I've come across in my life to settle out the differences between the two.

Picture a group of people randomly saying things~ and then a conversation about impregnating different animals to get them to give birth to hybrids (I don't know if you'll talk about this hahaha it was at the top of my head). So you see, everyone's having a big a laugh about all the bizarre things people say, it's just for fun, doesn't have to make sense. THEN comes a smart ass

"You know, technically, you can't do that, that's just stupid~ think about it. You can't make the bird do it with a snake. (NO DUH!) and besides, you guys said give birth. they both only lay eggs. (like OMG seriously? SERIOUSLY? You're getting way too technical here! Spare us the stupid details)"

SEE WHAT I MEAN? Smart asses does something like that ALL the time. Though this not might be the greatest of examples but the minute the smart ass ends that statement, everyone else's mood is ruined or they turn quiet, because s/he has taken the fun out of it.

AND speaking of SMART ASSES. I hate hate hate it when people insist on something that you've already said no to. You think you're so smart like that? Huh? Another scenario.

Person A:
I don't like putting in tomato sauce in my sandwich.

Person B:
Yeah me neither, I don't like it.

Person "Smart Ass":
Really? You don't like it? But there's tomato in that sandwich you're eating right now.

Person B:
She said tomato sauce, I'm okay with tomatoes.

Smart Ass:
Isn't that the same thing though? It's still tomato, they taste the same.

Person B:
No they're not, that has some sort of paste, I know what I like and don't like okay?

Smart Ass:
Well technically, they're both tomatoes, funny that you like that but not *mumble mumble*

Person A:
*looks from Smart Ass to B quietly*

WELL, there you have it. Isn't that ANNOYING? Why must that smart ass be like that? What's the point? Take people's word as it is when they say tomato sauce and tomato is different. Like why in the world do you HAVE to continue with it and prove to everyone that you're so smart? You argue with me one time to many if what you're correcting is something that involves me and it's about me okay?

*stabs all the smart asses in their ass* =___=);

My Heritage

I thought it'd be interesting to shed some light about my heritage. My lineage. My descent.

I find that my family history has quite a story behind it. It's unique compared to most, because though my family has gone so far from what happened back then, we still managed to keep the history alive. Knowing the past makes future referencing so much easier.

We all grow up with the weight of history on us. Our ancestors dwell in the attics of our brains as they do in the spiraling chains of knowledge hidden in every cell of our bodies.

- Shirley Abbott

I find that the generation before mine, which is my dad and his siblings... out of all of them, only my dad was the one who continued telling us the story of what my grand-dad told him. I suppose that's because compared to my other cousins, we're quite close to my dad and that he actually had the chance to hear such stories from my Grand-dad.

So here, not only do I wish for our family history to not disappear, I hope that in some way, a piece of me -- however small, can be immortalized within this weblog. No misconceptions of where we came from, no more ambiguity on why people wonder certain things about this family, just the truth and in the process, I'll be able to make everyone learn that despite life being so complex and so interesting, people think that it's all mundane, when actually, they just didn't take time to realise what lies beneath all the times that have passed.

Okay, well decades ago, the very core of my roots would have to come from Indonesia. Yes, I have Indonesian blood in me, so no jokes about how I say "maaf ya" okay my dear litto friends? :p It just comes naturally to me to say maaf ya instead of minta maaf! xP hahaha.

Well anyway, Dad told us about this story when I was 10 years old. Surprisingly, I remember quite a lot, almost very detailed! hahaha see, I must've been quite taken with it. I honestly treated other ethnicity much much better after I learned about my family history :P It taught me a few good things.

Before I begin in detail, I'll just explain that I have Dutch, Indonesian and Chinese in me (from my dad's side) and Arabic blood (from mom's side). So, I guess that's why my dad's side of the family, we aren't dark-skinned~

The root of it all, is that I am a descendant of the West Sumatra part of Indonesia... or was it the East? I'm pretty sure it was the west though, because I vaguely remembered doing the west-side hand gesture that black people do, when my dad told us and my siblings looked at me weirdly..... *cough* awkward~

So they're pretty fair as well, the Sumatran people. More specifically, we came from a certain clan; called the Minangkabau. A remarkable story behind the name and I ain't making this shit up~

There was a dispute between our people with these other bunch of people (a.k.a. BAD GUYS) who wanted to take over our lands. So like, my dad said, since we have such kind hearts (I think that was an impromptu thing... he might've made that bit up XD hehehe) we wanted to avoid any casualties or bloods spilling. So instead of going to war with each other, we proposed a battle of animals to decide our fate.

So like, I suppose the bad guys thought they were being all smart and they were all pumped up and confident, because they had like this bad ass bull on their side. Little did they know, our side has brains. HAH! While they were busy preparing (or training) a mean fighting machine (the bull), we starved a lil baby bull for days until the fight would commence.

When the day of the bull fight (literally) came, we attached knives to the little bull's horns, like razor sharp ones! Then ta-dah~ they were let loose on an open field to fight with each other. I suppose the little bull was delirious from lack of food/milk, because it charged full speed ahead to the bad ass bull and felt for the (non-existing) udders of the bad ass bull's tummy. Little bull was damn hungry lah... you can't blame it :p

AND YES, WE WERE VICTORIOUS! KAMI MANANG! WITH OUR KERBAU! lol... thus.. the name Minang-Kabau. Get it? get it? menang with kerbau? :p Yeah... I toldja it was an awesomely interesting story! :D That's how the name 'Minangkabau' was dubbed.

So a few years later, marriages happened and my ancestor married a Dutch woman. This happened in the late 1800's. Another interesting fact about this marriage is that, my great (x18) grandfather married a DUTCH. Well, that really isn't a big thing, just another whitey, kidding! love u great(x18) grandma! :p hahaha~ but what makes it interesting is that, my dad said we've been having wars and they occupied our lands and what not, basically we didn't have that much of a friendly with them. Pay attention to this bit of information because this is vital for what's coming next.

Remember my great(x18) grandfather? well, I find this to be somewhat of a betrayal because for one thing, not only is he Indonesian marrying the enemy (but I suppose it's okay - I kinda find that awesome and romantic) but what makes it a big thing is because... he was of Indonesian royalty. Yep, he was the king =__=); See? Isn't that like wtf? BUT yeah, it's like forbidden love... lol I gotta stop watching movies like that.

Well whatever, it was after over more than half a century from all the wars when he got hitched with my great (x18) grandmother. x) Then they had three sons together~! My great (x17) grand dad was the 2nd child. He was called 'Raja Putih' -- well that was his nick name~ because he had blond hair. Lol! LIKE OMG! Doesn't that explain why you people think I can be so blonde sometimes? :p Well obviously, our little family life didn't last very long or happily~ because, the 2nd son and 3rd son had to flee the country... and sort of go into hiding, because people were out to get them... for what reason? I can't really recall, don't think my dad shared that bit of information.

Well, so that's why having those horn things have been our identity, it's all etched in our family history. Plus, if you see buildings like these...

that's minangkabau-inspired or minangkabau-related. That is also why, when my sister got married last time, she had this very elaborate head-piece. That's part of tradition. Though some Bruneians -- my dad said, just took it up because they think it's also part of theirs. Though maybe it is, but yeah, we did it because of our Indonesian ancestry :)

that's my sister btw...

So anyways, the two Princes ran away from their homeland and they found themselves on a little country called Brunei Darussalam in the 1900's! :) We practically lived and bred like rabbits here. Marrying Bruneian-Malays, quite a few Chinese people and Arabs and one or two Brits... BUT, that's boring and normal, you get a lot of half-chinese/Brits/Arabs in Brunei :p lol... but yes! that is how u got WONDERFUL ANIS! But fuck man, I am so Bruneian now~ lol. I've always denied that I am nothing but Malay :)

Wow, that actually took a LOT of time to type up. hahaha~ oh well.

I find that our heritage is like scriptures to our soul, we should at least know where we came from to understand more about ourselves. How many of us actually know stuff about our own family history? I mean, most of us have probably been nosy about people's businesses at least once in our lifetime. So how come we never try to nosy around our own business? Try getting back to your roots! You might find something interesting :P

Wong Fu Productions

I tend to watch Asians on YouTube (I subscribe to mostly Asians or part Asians). Sure you might say they're white washed, but I don't know... they have their own identity~ not cause of their racial background or anything, but in their character and they have their own humor, albeit a little lame at times :P But dorky humor is the cutest kind :D

Here's a video for those who are currently going through a long distance relationship. For the most part, I think most of you who's in a 'LDR' can feel the happiness they feel once the people in this video are together again...

Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtBk6Y5b-Nc&feature=related

I want that for myself... I'm beginning to feel the distance. And this next video, is so bittersweet, I do not wish for that to happen to myself or to anyone even... D:

Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgx8wpr6-eY&fmt=18

and the second part is crucial to seeing the full effect.. :')

Isn't that just sad...?

The last few moments of the clip, she said something that really hit home "it didn't ache because he was gone, it ached because he couldn't tell her when he would come back, (HERE IT COMES, *THE* WORDS) all that distance and all that time apart would turn them into strangers again"

Check out Wong Fu Productions on YouTube, they're like this three pretty talented guys who made it big form YT after around half a decade ago :)

poetry

It's not all dirty, it's not all clean
It's so much more than it seems
Life was cold, harsh and mean
Filled with tears of broken dreams.

Reaped whatever it is I wished to find
At sixes and sevens that I may be
Never thought that life would ever be kind
For nothing can be so gracious with me

Throw it all out - throw it away
Nothing left to cry for - nothing left to say
Kept it it all in check - kept the emotions at bay
But enough is enough - let's end it today

- anis -

I realise this sounds kind of uhmmm moody and dark. lol. AKU STRESS laaah~! pasal the stupid coming of tests and then group assignments and shiiiittt~ end of year exams will be soon and such. I need a break. I was feeling so negative and pessimistic. I was about to go crazy when it dawned on me I should find a more creative outlet in which to channel this negativity... lol. Thus, the results are what you see up there. Hmmm...

I feel...

... impeccably emo and single. WHY?

not a SINGLE call.
not a SINGLE text.
not even a SINGLE missed call.
not even a SINGLE chat session.
I have not heard a SINGLE thing from you since four days back.

Yep, I feel depressingly SINGLE. kthnxbai.

I guess he's busy with school work or something.... *sigh*

I ♥ you and I'm not complaining per se... I just wanted to get that out~ :( *huggles* I miss him badly.

How green pigs are made... XD

Little green pigs are made out of enjoyment and silliness! XD and a whole lot of clay and grown ups playing as little kiddies! :D

We had such fun~ laughing and joking around

So, alright, we're not just being extremely bored doing all this clay-making thing :p If you must know, we're making it to give as a gift for our friend :D So it all started with a girl named Fiqah mentioning to me in passing that she never had a birthday surprise that wasn't 'expected'... something like that, so I kinda picked up on it and decided to give her a nice birthday surprise!!! :D Her birthday was coming up pretty soon too~

Told our little group of friends and decided that it would be a nice thing to do :) So we decided to go shopping for her birthday presents earlier today. Macam rasa wah aku kan shopping sama everyone atuuu~ sanggup I helped Liana and Neeza with their MIB presentation -- despite me being totally anti over the course. If they did it earlier it would mean we could go shop earlier! So at first everyone could make it, then Fahrul dropped out because he was busy with things~ :O

Went around Gadong and then finally after an hour or so, we found the perfect gift! A pillow/plushie thing~ But you know, whenever I have birthdays right and people surprise me... I do get happy, but I find that while getting expensive things as presents is a WONDERFUL thing, I still hoped that people put more effort into my gifts X3

Like that time when Faie, Fahrul and Zatie surprised me :) that was very touching and memorable because while Faie made the most effort to get me surprised, they all came up with a ruse and everything~ Macam siuk XD hehehe

So the usual, SURPRISE! happy birthday sing song, a cake and gift that was bought and wrapped is all pretty nice~ but like, an additional use of ruse and a gift that was made by them, be it a meal or whatever, I find that I would love that more!

I don't know why people don't get that doing something like that is both rewarding for the giver and the receiver! I feel awesome by making someone feel awesome, just because they're important in my life and I like them, so making them feel happy an awesome feeling you know :)

So, I suggested we should make her pigs out of clay that kids use to play with :p and yeah everyone agreed~ so we began making the pigs x) I insisted we used this game application from my iPhone as the theme :p she goes nuts for it~

The game is pretty addictive to be honest~ heehee want to check more on this game application? check it out here! ANGRY BIRDS

insisting that it should be green was not a mistake x) everyone was so into it, it was actually so much fun for us as well! :D The rest helped me with making the base of the pigs...

as you can see:

So then I brought it home with me and I usai-usai everything and added the details~ which took me roughly an hour :O AND! it looks like this now:

Aren't we just faaaaakking awethum? :3 teehee XD

Teen Angst

You know, I've always had a fascination on how the teen's mind works. Since I'm like close to being an adult now *cough* prasan aku ah *cough* I've decided to look into it deeper~ :p Yes, I am just funny like that really X) I think too much about one thing, until sometimes, I do something like read stuff about it.

Thing is, what teenagers have is this thing called 'teen angst'... though commonly, teen angst is a label that people just sweepingly stereotype most teens to be. They think it's nothing serious, like it's just a stupid phase and while that MIGHT be true to an extent-- there really are teens who do have a hard time in their life.

Which brings me to say that, more and more people should be kind with their words and be more observant and take notice to everyone around them. It's actually a serious problem =_= So the other day, like a few months back to be honest~ hehehe~ one of my "Corporate Communications" lecturer gave us the choice to do a presentation on anything we like, basically just anything that we find interesting.

THUS! the slides you see up there. But yeah... I just wanted to post it up because it's really interesting on what the origin, causes and consequences are of 'Teen Angst" x) click if you wish to see~

No no. YOU'RE COMPLICATED

Here's one of the many quotes I find to be pretty good:

"Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive."
- Sir Walter Scott

Pokoknya, you sooo don't want to go there. Lying is so complicated. It just makes your brain feel like it was submerged into the depths of scorching hot hell --- Oooh! maybe I should change my Hotel's name to Hot Hell Hotel~ HAHAHA catchy in a... weird way D:

I have a theory. People who put their relationship status as "it's complicated" have a string of lies connected to them. But what kind of lies? They're different, because it applies to different situations, but without a doubt I totally believe that complications involves a mess of lies.

Well what I think it means is either

(a) totally not being real about how they feel, thus having this need to constantly hide it behind this stupid (konon nya) "mysterious" air, by saying vague things like "it's complicated". As if it would come to that. It's either a total yes, I'm taken, or a total yes, I'm frickin' available. It's only complicated when you're lying to yourself about how you feel about someone.

OR

(b) you're lying about some relationship you have with someone - EITHER because you find yourself being a prick who's emotionally cheating on their partner. OR it's because you do love each other and you're just lying to everyone about what you two have because you want to keep it on the down low :p

SEE. The point here is... when you say it's complicated. It actually means YOU are complicated and that's because you're lying about things... and so which brings me to say stop saying "it's complicated" like it's a cool thing. I hate that... =_= AND don't say "it's complicated" and you think that's a good, concrete and viable enough reason to go around acting negatively...

My opinion matters cause it's an opinion :p you can choose to agree or disagree - that's really your choice x) Hehehehee sorry x) something just totally dawned on me~ Damnation, I've been brainwashed, I seriously look into things (a.k.a. analyze) waaaay too much. hurr hurr. shit I suppose I can also blame literature for being that way. Too much of the details but none of actual facts.

Ooooh I like that, I should quote myself on that:

"Too much of the details but none of actual relevant facts."
- Anyss Suhaimi

That would be a reference to women in general (to an extent) and to much of the world of blogging! :D Though, I beg to differ on my own statement... (woohh inward conflict! D: lol) because at times, that might not be the case :) Yes, yes, in fact, I do have my moments :3

FINAL FANTASY

Anyone here like Final Fantasy games? I know I do! :D Although I won't call myself a hardcore fan, but I love it enough to want to play the game :3 Funny thing though, sometimes my friends (and myself included) wonder why they call it "Final Fantasy" when it's pretty much still going on XD I realised that's because it's either

a) they like made "FINAL FANTASY" as a frickin' noun instead of actual words describing something to be the final of a certain fantasy.

OR

b) It's actually a description of the finale of a fantasy... because like, if you haven't noticed... It's really not inter-related are they? All the Final Fantasy games? :P So that's why I guess x)
.
.
.
.
.

.
.
.
.

So Squaresoft-enix made a release on their latest Final Fantasy game~ FFXIII ~!! So far, I really like the game play, it's similar to the one in FFXII but the leveling up is like FFX. I like that they also have roles like FFX-2 and it the atmosphere is set in a very modern-like era... similar to FFVII.. I think~ and I don't know... I suppose the story line is interesting enough to make me want to advance.

Characters? I can't say I favour any of them particularly... At first Snow was hot and he had the potential to make me like his character but in the end he was just... dry. Everyone's pretty alright~ I didn't fall in love with any of them, none of the girls are like Beautiful, they're either cute or like plain... and close to being pretty, but not beautiful :p Uh-oh talk about superficiality.

Graphics awesome as ever though! the summons are awesome... as you can see from below the characters are with their summons (Eidolon - similar to them Aeons in FFX) - they're the machine-like or animal-like big things that you see~
Lightning and her Eidolon... Odin

Snow and his
Vanille~ this girl is way too perky and has waaay too many sexual insinuations in her character =____=;
Fang! :D she's kinda cool albeit being a lil manly. I think she's got lesbionic thingies going on with Vanille :D hehehe just an observation really :)

Hope - pansy annoying hopeless character despite his very ironic name :P

Sazh. OMGWTFBBQ~!! A black dudeee!! Haven't seen a black character in a while... last one I remembered was like... Barrett from FFVII D: EPIC COME BACK! woohoo XD lol.

Right now though, I am quite anticipating the other release of Final Fantasy!! :D Guess what it is~ hehehe I'll put it beside Lightning as a hint :P

Yes, yes~ it's Final Fantasy XIII versus! w00t w00t! XD IT LOOKS AWESOME!! D:
TWO WORDS: NYUMMY and HOT :)

I soooo cannot wait~ cannot cannot cannot waiiit :D
